P0087 — Fuel Rail / System Pressure Too Low

What P0087 means

The actual fuel pressure is lower than the computer commands. Common on direct-injection and diesel engines; means the fuel supply can't keep up.

Most likely causes (in order)

  1. Weak fuel pump (lift or high-pressure)
  2. Clogged fuel filter
  3. Failing fuel pressure regulator
  4. Restricted fuel line / dirty injectors

What to check first

Measure actual fuel pressure against spec at idle and under load. Low and dropping under load = supply problem (pump/filter). Check the filter first if it's overdue.
