P0507 — Idle Speed Higher Than Expected
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? The engine idles too high. Driveable but a high idle can mean a vacuum leak and makes the car creep — worth fixing.
What P0507 means
Actual idle RPM is above target. Most often unmetered air sneaking in (a vacuum leak) or a throttle body that needs cleaning/relearning.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Vacuum / intake leak
- Dirty throttle body or stuck throttle plate
- Idle control valve (older)
- Throttle relearn needed
Symptoms you might notice
- High idle
- Creeping at stops
What to check first
Smoke-test for vacuum leaks; clean the throttle body and relearn idle. On a speed-density engine a vacuum leak shows up as high idle rather than fuel-trim codes.
