P1030 — Valvetronic Control Motor Position Deviation (Bank 1)

CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? Drive gently and get it looked at soon — it can worsen or fail inspection.

What P1030 means

This is a manufacturer-specific code — its meaning depends on the vehicle’s make (see below).

What P1030 means on specific makes

BMW / Mini CAUTION

BMW-specific. The Valvetronic eccentric shaft (variable valve LIFT, not VANOS timing) isn't moving as commanded when the DME drives the actuator motor. Distinct from VANOS.

  1. Valvetronic actuator/servo motor ($300-600)
  2. Eccentric shaft sensor ($150-300)
  3. Carbon binding the eccentric shaft mechanism
  4. Wiring/connector to the Valvetronic motor

Check first: Confirm with INPA/ISTA whether the eccentric shaft moves; a generic scanner only shows the P-code. Don't replace VANOS solenoids for this — it's Valvetronic.
