What P1299 means on specific makes
Ford / Lincoln STOP
The CHT sensor detected the engine got dangerously hot and the PCM activated fail-safe cooling (it cuts cylinders/fuel to limp the car). This is a real overheat event — stop and let it cool before continuing, or you risk a blown head gasket/warped head.
- Low coolant / coolant leak ($10-200)
- Failed thermostat ($20-80)
- Bad water pump ($100-400)
- Cooling fan failure ($100-400)
Check first: Check coolant level and for leaks first; verify the fan runs and the thermostat opens. Do not keep driving hot.
