P1361 — Ignition Control (IC) Circuit Low Voltage

CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? Drive gently and get it looked at soon — it can worsen or fail inspection.

What P1361 means

This is a manufacturer-specific code — its meaning depends on the vehicle’s make (see below).

What P1361 means on specific makes

Heads up: P1361 is a manufacturer-specific code, so the same number means different things by make.

Chevy / GMC / Cadillac / Buick CAUTION

The ignition control circuit signal is low/open — the PCM isn't seeing the proper IC feedback from the ignition module/coils. Can cause misfires, hard start, or no-start on older GM distributor/ICM systems.

  1. Failed ignition control module ($50-200)
  2. Coil/wiring fault in IC circuit ($20-150)
  3. Bad connection at ICM/PCM ($0-50)

Check first: Check the IC circuit for opens/shorts between ICM and PCM; test the ignition module.

Honda / Acura CAUTION

Intermittent loss of the TDC (cam/crank position) sensor signal in the distributor or cam-driven sensor on older Hondas. Part of the older distributor sensor cluster (CKP/TDC/CYP).

  1. Failed TDC sensor / distributor ($100-300 distributor)
  2. Wiring/connector fault
  3. Worn distributor on high-mileage engines

Check first: Inspect the distributor sensor wiring; on older Hondas the whole distributor often gets replaced. P1362 is the no-signal version.
