P1389 — No ASD Relay Output Voltage at PCM

CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? Drive gently and get it looked at soon — it can worsen or fail inspection.

What P1389 means

This is a manufacturer-specific code — its meaning depends on the vehicle’s make (see below).

What P1389 means on specific makes

Dodge / Jeep / Ram / Chrysler CAUTION

The PCM commanded the Auto-Shutdown (ASD) relay but didn't see the resulting output voltage. The ASD relay feeds the coils, injectors, and fuel pump — so a fault here is a common crank-no-start. Closely related to P0688.

  1. Failed ASD relay ($15-60)
  2. Blown fuse / open in ASD output circuit ($5-30)
  3. Wiring/connector fault ($20-150)
  4. PCM relay-driver fault (rare) ($varies)

Check first: Test the ASD relay and verify its output voltage reaches the PCM and injectors/coils; check related fuses.
