P1610 — NATS Immobilizer - Lock Mode
STOPIs it safe to drive? Don’t keep driving — risk of real damage or a safety issue.
What P1610 means
This is a manufacturer-specific code — its meaning depends on the vehicle’s make (see below).
What P1610 means on specific makes
Nissan / Infiniti STOP
Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS) has entered lock mode — the ECM won't allow the engine to run/start because it didn't get a valid key signal (often after multiple failed starts or a dead battery event). The car may crank but not start.
- Unregistered/faulty key or worn key chip
- Dead/weak battery triggering lock (replace battery)
- Antenna/IMMU communication fault
- ECM<->IMMU mismatch (needs reprogram)
Check first: A scan-tool NATS reset is usually required to clear lock mode even after fixing the battery/key. P1611/P1612/P1614/P1615 are related NATS communication faults.
