STOPIs it safe to drive? Don’t keep driving — risk of real damage or a safety issue.
What P1626 means
This is a manufacturer-specific code — its meaning depends on the vehicle’s make (see below).
What P1626 means on specific makes
Chevy / GMC / Cadillac / Buick STOP
GM anti-theft: the PCM didn't receive the proper fuel-enable signal from the theft-deterrent (BCM/PassLock) system, so it disables fuel. Causes crank-no-start or start-then-stall. Common GM no-start, often a PassLock sensor or BCM communication issue.
- PassLock sensor in lock cylinder failing ($100-250)
- BCM-to-PCM communication/wiring fault ($50-300)
- Failed BCM ($200-500)
- Needs PassLock relearn ($0)
Check first: Check for the security light, attempt the PassLock relearn; scan BCM and verify the fuel-enable signal reaches the PCM.
