P1715 — Input/Turbine Speed Sensor (Transmission) Circuit Malfunction
What P1715 means
This is a manufacturer-specific code — its meaning depends on the vehicle’s make (see below).
What P1715 means on specific makes
Nissan / Infiniti CAUTION
The transmission input shaft (turbine) speed sensor signal is faulty, so the TCM can't compare input vs output speed. On Nissan CVTs this is a common cause of harsh/erratic shifting or limp mode.
- Failed input/turbine speed sensor ($80-200)
- Connector/wiring fault
- CVT internal/valve body issue (if sensor is fine)
Check first: Check the speed sensor signal and harness; on CVTs verify fluid condition too. Treat shudder/limp as a sign not to flog the CVT.
Mitsubishi CAUTION
Fault in the automatic transmission pulse generator assembly (input/turbine speed sensors). The TCM loses input-speed data, causing harsh or erratic shifts on Mitsubishi automatics.
- Failed pulse generator assembly ($100-300)
- Connector/wiring fault
- Internal trans issue (if sensor is good)
Check first: Check the pulse generator signals and harness; verify ATF condition. Erratic shifting + this code points to the sensor assembly.
