P2187 — System Too Lean at Idle (Bank 1)
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? Drive gently and get it looked at soon — it can worsen or fail inspection.
What P2187 means
This is a manufacturer-specific code — its meaning depends on the vehicle’s make (see below).
What P2187 means on specific makes
Hyundai / Kia CAUTION
Generic code, included because it's a top search on Hyundai/Kia (esp. Genesis Coupe 2.0T and GDI engines). Mixture is lean specifically at idle — classic unmetered-air leak that shows at idle and clears off-idle.
- Intake/vacuum leak (PCV, intake boot, gaskets) ($20-150)
- Dirty/failing MAF sensor ($100-300)
- Purge/EVAP valve stuck ($50-150)
- Fuel delivery weakness (HPFP on GDI)
Check first: Smoke-test the intake. Watch fuel trims: high positive at idle that normalizes at RPM = vacuum leak. On Genesis Coupe check the intake gaskets and PCV.
