U0001 — High Speed CAN Communication Bus

CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? There's a problem on the main high-speed communication bus. Multiple modules may stop talking — driveable with caution but several systems may be impaired.

What U0001 means

U0001 means the high-speed CAN bus itself has a fault — not a specific module, but the backbone that all major modules use to communicate. Power/ground issues, a wiring fault, or one bad module dragging the bus down are the real causes. Do NOT start replacing modules.

Most likely causes (in order)

  1. Blown fuse or lost power/ground to a module on the bus
  2. CAN-H or CAN-L wiring shorted together, to ground, or to power
  3. One failed module terminating the bus incorrectly
  4. Corroded connector at the OBD port or a module

Symptoms you might notice

What to check first

Key off, disconnect the battery, measure CAN-H to CAN-L resistance — a healthy bus with two 120-ohm terminators reads ~60 ohms. Short or open means a wiring or terminator problem. Do NOT start swapping modules.
