What P0449 means
The EVAP canister vent solenoid has failed or is sticking, or its circuit is faulty. Emissions-only; commonly debris-fouled on GM trucks/SUVs.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Vent solenoid failed/stuck ($30-120)
- Debris/dirt in the valve
- Wiring/connector corrosion
- Charcoal canister
Symptoms you might notice
What to check first
Inspect/clean or replace the vent solenoid. On GM, P0449 with P0455/P0496 often points to the vent valve or purge valve.
