P0715 — Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit

What P0715 means
The input (turbine) speed sensor measures how fast the torque converter turbine is spinning. The TCM needs this to calculate gear ratio and torque converter slip. Without a clean signal, shift quality degrades and the transmission may enter limp mode.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Failed input/turbine speed sensor
- Wiring or connector damage (often from vibration or heat)
- Metallic debris on the sensor tip (from worn clutches — check fluid)
- Low or burnt transmission fluid
Symptoms you might notice
- Harsh or erratic shifts
- Slipping
- Limp mode
- Speedometer errors on some vehicles
What to check first
Check transmission fluid level and condition first — metallic contamination on the sensor tip is a warning sign of internal wear. Then inspect the sensor connector and wiring before replacing the sensor.
