P0716 — Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? The input speed sensor signal is intermittent or implausible. Shift quality will suffer — avoid highway driving until diagnosed.
What P0716 means
Similar to P0715 but the signal exists yet is out of expected range or noisy. The TCM sees a speed value that doesn't match engine speed and gear position. Often intermittent — the connector and wiring are just as likely a cause as the sensor.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Intermittent wiring or connector fault (wiggle-test while monitoring with a scanner)
- Failing input speed sensor
- Metallic debris on the sensor magnet
- Low or dirty transmission fluid
Symptoms you might notice
- Intermittent harsh shifts
- Slipping
- Limp mode on hard acceleration
What to check first
Use a scan tool to watch input speed vs. output speed while driving. An implausible ratio points to the sensor; look for the signal dropping under load before replacing it.
