P0746 — Pressure Control Solenoid Performance / Stuck Off
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? A line-pressure control solenoid isn't performing correctly. Shifts may be harsh, soft, or the trans may slip — get it checked before it causes internal damage.
What P0746 means
The pressure control solenoid regulates hydraulic line pressure inside the transmission. If it's stuck off or not performing, pressure is wrong and shifts suffer. Dirty fluid clogs these solenoids frequently — fluid is the first move.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Dirty, old, or low transmission fluid clogging the solenoid
- Failed pressure control solenoid
- Valve body wear or debris
- TCM wiring fault
Symptoms you might notice
- Harsh or soft shifts
- Slipping
- Delayed engagement
What to check first
Fresh fluid and filter first — these solenoids are sensitive to dirty fluid. If shifting doesn't improve after a fluid service, test the solenoid's electrical resistance and duty-cycle response on a scanner.
