C0035 — Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? Normal brakes work fine, but ABS and traction/stability control are likely disabled — no anti-lock protection in a panic stop. Drive with extra following distance.
What C0035 means
The ABS module uses four wheel-speed sensors to detect which wheel is locking up. A circuit fault on the left front disables ABS (and usually traction and stability control) as a safety default. The basic brake system is unaffected.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Damaged or corroded wheel-speed sensor connector / wiring (most common — inspect the harness at the wheel)
- Failed wheel speed sensor
- Damaged reluctor ring (tone ring) on the hub or CV axle
- Wheel bearing failure (many sensors are built into the bearing)
Symptoms you might notice
- ABS light on
- Traction and stability control disabled
- Speedometer error on some vehicles
What to check first
Inspect the harness at the left-front wheel — this wiring flexes every time the wheel steers and cracks first. Check the connector for corrosion. Measure sensor resistance (typically 1-2 kOhm passive, or verify a clean square-wave signal on active sensors).
