C0045 — Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? ABS and traction control are off — normal brakes work, but no anti-lock or stability assist. Drive with extra care.
What C0045 means
Rear wheel speed sensors are also used for traction control and stability control. The left rear wiring commonly takes damage from road debris, rust near the rear axle, or harness clips that loosen. On AWD vehicles this can also affect drivetrain logic.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Corroded or broken rear harness (common in rust-belt vehicles)
- Failed wheel speed sensor
- Damaged tone ring or bearing
- Wiring chafed on brake lines or suspension
Symptoms you might notice
- ABS light on
- Traction control off
- Possible stability system faults
What to check first
Inspect the harness along the entire rear suspension path — especially near the brake lines and any flex points. Rear sensors corrode from underneath faster than front sensors.
