C0040 — Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? Normal brakes work, but ABS and stability assist are off — no anti-lock protection in a hard stop. Drive with extra following distance.
What C0040 means
Same principle as C0035 but on the right front. ABS is disabled as a safety default. The wiring harness routing and connector quality are the first things to check — heat and flex degrade them over time.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Damaged harness or corroded connector at the right-front wheel
- Failed wheel speed sensor
- Damaged tone ring (check when replacing the sensor)
- Wheel bearing (integrated sensor)
Symptoms you might notice
- ABS light on
- Traction and stability off
What to check first
Jack up the right front, spin the hub by hand, and watch for a signal on a scanner. Check the wiring harness along the suspension travel path for chafe or cracks.
