P0713 — Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor High Input
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? The trans temperature sensor reads implausibly hot or open-circuit. Drive gently — the TCM loses its temperature reference and may shift oddly.
What P0713 means
A high voltage signal from the TFT sensor typically means an open circuit in the sensor or wiring. The computer sees an impossibly high (or no) temperature reading and can't correctly manage fluid temp-based shift logic.
Most likely causes (in order)
- Open circuit in TFT sensor wiring or connector
- Failed TFT sensor (open internally)
- Corroded or damaged connector
- Low fluid level allowing the sensor to read inaccurately
Symptoms you might notice
- Check-engine light
- Shift quality changes
- Trans may enter protection mode
What to check first
Unplug the TFT sensor; if voltage stays high (near 5V), the wiring has an open. If it drops normally, the sensor is failed open. Check fluid level first.
