C0561 — ABS System Disabled
CAUTIONIs it safe to drive? The ABS control module has disabled the entire ABS system due to a detected fault. Normal brakes work — you can stop the car — but there is no anti-lock protection.
What C0561 means
C0561 is a system-level shutdown code: the ABS module detected enough of a problem that it turned the whole ABS system off as a safety default. It nearly always accompanies more specific C-codes — read those first.
Most likely causes (in order)
- One or more wheel speed sensor faults (C0035-C0050 — look for companion codes)
- ABS module power or ground fault
- Hydraulic control unit (HCU) fault
- Failed ABS module
Symptoms you might notice
- ABS light on
- Traction and stability control off
- May accompany other C-codes
What to check first
Read ALL stored codes — C0561 is a consequence, not a root cause. Address the companion wheel-speed or module codes first. If C0561 appears alone, check the ABS module fuses and grounds.
